Description: The module’s main objective is to familiarize trainees with basic principles of International Humanitarian Law/LOAC, to analyze major legal concerns on human rights protection during maritime ops and to illustrate best operational practices in accordance with legal and humanitarian standards.

Objectives: Upon completion trainees will be able to:

  1. Identify basic principles of IHL/LOAC in the maritime environment.
  2. Analyse major legal concerns (e.g. use of force, detainee handling etc) according to international law.
  3. Detect and apply necessary procedures and precautions for humanitarian and legal standards to be met in MIO, within armed conflict or law enforcement context, through practical training (detainee handling, evidence collection/crime scene investigation).

The duration of the module is 6 training hours.
