Description: After the overview of inter national law and current challenges in the high seas (9010 & 9020), this module’s main objective is to analyze the legal justification and implemen tation applied in various maritime interdiction operations. In the heart of the module is the dis tinguish and classification of maritime security operations under the dual paradigm of armed conflicts or law enforcement context.

Objectives: Upon completion trainees will be able to:

  1. Describe the legal and political background under different types of MIOs.
  2. Survey legal parameteres applying to different operational paradigms.
  3. Explore cases of legal obscurity or gap in the operational environment
  4. Examine past MIO incindents under legal aspect.

The duration of the module is up to 12 training hours.
