The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) is the only NATO Education & Training Facility (NETF) dedicated to the maritime domain. Officially established in 2008, is quality-assurance unconditionally accredited by Allied Command Transformation. Funded by Greece and multinationally manned, the Centre is located at the north-west of Crete, at the Akrotiri peninsula, in the northern area of Souda Bay, near the city of Chania, inside Hellenic Navy’s Souda Naval Base.

Course 23000 “Weapons Intelligence Team (WIT) Supplement in the Maritime Environment”
From 18 to 29 May 2026 NMIOTC delivered the Resident Course 23000 “Weapons Intelligence Team (WIT) Supplement in the Maritime Environment”, hosting fifteen (15) trainees from seven (7) Nations (Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore and USA). This NATO accredited course is specifically designed to enhance the operational knowledge and competencies of military and law enforcement WIT personnel and EOD divers in the field of maritime and underwater technical exploitation in support of Counter-IED operations. 17th NMIOTC Annual Conference 2026
From 3 to 4 June 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre had the pleasure of hosting its 17th Annual Conference, entitled “Blue Resilience 360°: Securing Maritime Infrastructure in the Era of Multi-Domain Operations”. The Conference brought together over 100 participants from 19 nations, including representatives from the NATO Command Structure, the European Union, national authorities, international organizations, academia, research institutions, and the shipping, energy, telecommunications, and defence industries. NSO “Maritime Operational Law Course” in NMIOTC
From 18 to 22 May 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) hosted the 2026 iteration of the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) “Maritime Operational Law Course”, receiving thirty (30) trainees representing Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States. This NATO-approved course strengthens Allied and Partner capacity to conduct maritime operations within the framework of international law.
