The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) is the only NATO Education & Training Facility (NETF) dedicated to the maritime domain. Officially established in 2008, is quality-assurance unconditionally accredited by Allied Command Transformation. Funded by Greece and multinationally manned, the Centre is located at the north-west of Crete, at the Akrotiri peninsula, in the northern area of Souda Bay, near the city of Chania, inside Hellenic Navy’s Souda Naval Base.

Visit of the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy

On 23 June 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) was honored to welcome a delegation of Candidate Embassy Attachés from the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy (HDA). The Candidate Embassy Attachés, accompanied by HDA Director, Ambassador Michael C. Diamessis and the Director of Studies, Minister Plenipotentiary Michael Angelopoulos, were briefed by the NMIOTC Commandant on the Centre’s mission and training programs.

NMIOTC Course 25000 “Drafting, Production & Maintenance of NATO Standards”

From 8 to 12 June 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre, with support from the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), the NATO Standardization Office (NSO), the NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and DEFSTAND. conducted resident Course 25000  “Drafting, Production & Maintenance of NATO Standards”, hosting 30 trainees representing Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Norway, Slovenia, Türkiye, Ukraine, UK and the USA. This NATO accredited course is specifically designed to provide comprehensive knowledge to facilitate understanding of the procedures for development, production and maintenance of NATO standardization documents, including doctrines. Visit of National Defence College of India

On 11 June 2026 the NMIOTC was honored to welcome a delegation from the National Defence College of India, headed by Rear Admiral Sandeep Singh Sandhu IND (N). The delegation consisted of high-ranking officers from Germany, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman and Sri Lanka. During the visit, the delegation was thoroughly briefed on the Centre’s mission, role and extensive training capabilities and had the opportunity to observe part of the ongoing courses.
