The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) is the only NATO Education & Training Facility (NETF) dedicated to the maritime domain. Officially established in 2008, is quality-assurance unconditionally accredited by Allied Command Transformation. Funded by Greece and multinationally manned, the Centre is located at the north-west of Crete, at the Akrotiri peninsula, in the northern area of Souda Bay, near the city of Chania, inside Hellenic Navy’s Souda Naval Base.

NMIOTC Acknowledges Prof Medhat’s Recognition of Its Digital Transformation Efforts and Highlights Progress Following Recent Workshop

NMIOTC extends its sincere appreciation to Professor Sam Medhat for prominently recognising the Centre’s Digital Transformation (DT) initiatives in his recent article “From Radar to Algorithms: Re-imagining the Future of Maritime Interdiction.”, in the Journal of UK Parliamentary and Scientific Committee. NMIOTC recently convened a focused workshop on DT in MIO within a Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) environment, gathering experts from across NATO to inform the Centre’s ongoing 2025–2026 DT Concept Development Plan. NMIOTC Training in NIRC, Kuwait

From 30 November to 04 December 2025, a 5-member Mobile Education & Training Team (METT) from NMIOTC, led by the Commandant NMIOTC, delivered a Combined Modular Training on Contemporary Maritime Interdiction Operations at the NATO-ICI Regional Centre (NIRC) in the State of Kuwait. This marked the fifth instance in which NMIOTC successfully organized and delivered a week-long course to NIRC, reflecting the depth of cooperation and sustained support shared between the two Centres. 10th International Senior Course of Hellenic National Defence College: “Contemporary Maritime Security Threats” Module

On December 4th, 2025 the students of the 10th International Senior Course of the Hellenic National Defence College (HNDC), led by Rear Admiral Vasileios Vasilogiannakopoulos, HNDC Deputy Commandant, attended a series of lectures and presentations delivered by NMIOTC Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), during their educational week trip.
