The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) is the only NATO Education & Training Facility (NETF) dedicated to the maritime domain. Officially established in 2008, is quality-assurance unconditionally accredited by Allied Command Transformation. Funded by Greece and multinationally manned, the Centre is located at the north-west of Crete, at the Akrotiri peninsula, in the northern area of Souda Bay, near the city of Chania, inside Hellenic Navy’s Souda Naval Base.

My vision is to further develop the concept of NMIOTC as a hub for the maritime dimension of projecting stability. To this end, we are undertaking a series of mid and long-term initiatives, such as establishing new individual and collective training products.

Course 26000 “Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC)/ Combat Lifesaver (CLS) in Maritime Operations”
From 24th to 28th of November 2025, the Resident Course 26000 “Tactical Combat Casualty Care / Combat Lifesaver in Maritime Operations” was successfully conducted at the Centre’s premises. The course aims to provide to all combatants and first responders (SOF and conventional personnel), involved in Maritime Operations, basic knowledge and skills in delivering necessary pre – hospital care with limited equipment and in confined spaces. Furthermore, critical and essential skills are taught so as first responders are able to assist medical personnel to provide more complicated medical assistance and deal effectively with a mass casualty situation. Online Workshop on Digital Transformation in MIO & MDO
On November 24th, 2025, NMIOTC concluded a pilot online workshop titled “Digital Transformation in Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) and Multi-Domain Operations (MDO)”. The workshop brought together experts and stakeholders from across the NATO enterprise to examine how emerging digital technologies – including artificial intelligence (AI), intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), cyber defense, and autonomous systems – are reshaping Maritime Interdiction Operations and influencing the broader multi-domain operational environment. Tailored Training to ITS CARABINIERE Boarding Team
On Friday, November 14th, 2025, NMIOTC provided one day of Tailored Training to a 13-member Boarding Team of ITS Carabiniere aiming at enhancing their Close Quarter Combat skills and VBSS capacity.
