NSO “Maritime Operational Law Course” in NMIOTC

From 18 to 22 May 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) hosted the 2026 iteration of the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) “Maritime Operational Law Course”, receiving thirty (30) trainees representing Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States. This NATO-approved course strengthens Allied and Partner capacity to conduct maritime operations within the framework of international law. Course 28000 – “Radiological Search in Maritime Environment”

From 18 to 22 May 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre conducted the 2026 iteration of its resident Course 28000 “Radiological Search in the Maritime Environment”, hosting 20 trainees and 11 instructors from 6 Nations (Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Slovenia and the USA). This NATO Course is specifically designed to enhance the operational knowledge and competencies of both military and civilian personnel in the field of nuclear or radiological incidents in the maritime environment. The curriculum focused on classroom lectures supplemented by demonstrations on the field and incorporated extensive hands-on practical training on board of maritime assets.

Course 27000 “Maritime Sniper Course”

From 4 το 15 May 2026, NMIOTC delivered the Resident Course 27000 “Maritime Sniper Course” in the broader area of Chania, Crete. In total, twenty three (23) trainees from six (6) countries (Belgium, Germany, Greece, Malta, Netherlands and Slovakia) planned and conducted Sniper Operations in the Maritime Environment. Tailored Training delivered to F222 REGINA MARIA Command & Boarding Team

From 11 to 15 May 2026, based on a request from the Romanian Navy ship F222 REGINA MARIA, NMIOTC delivered Tailored Training to 19 members of the ship’s Command & Boarding Team, aiming at enhancing VBSS capacity in Maritime Interdiction Operations as well as Close Quarter Combat skills. On the occasion of the training, NMIOTC Commandant had an office call with the C.O. of REGINA MARIA, Captain Mitel-Laurențiu Alexandru.

ΝΜΙΟΤC COORDINATING BOARD (NCB) 2026

On 12 and 13 May 2026, the ΝΜΙΟΤC Coordinating Board (NCB) was convened at the Centre, chaired by a Hellenic Navy General Staff representative and co-chaired by a representative from HQ SACT. A designated representative from ACO (remote participation), as well as the NMIOTC Deputy Commandant and the NMIOTC Chief of Staff also participated as members of the Board. Course 31000 “Harbour Protection and its Relation to MIO”

From 20 to 24 April 2026, nmiotc DELIVERED the Resident Course 31000 “Harbour Protection and its relation to MIO”, with support from the NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (CoE CSW) and the Bundeswehr’s Technical Center for Ships and Naval Weapons, Maritime Technology and Research (WTD-71). In total, twenty three (23) trainees from eight (8) NATO Nations (Belgium, Finland, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Portugal) were trained in the application of NATO Practices & Procedures regarding the operational and tactical dimensions of planning and conducting Harbour Protection Operations (HPO).
