North Atlantic Council visit to NMIOTC
SOUDA BAY, GREECE – On Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025, in the context of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) away day to Chania military facilities, co-organized by the German & the Greek Permanent Missions to NATO, Permanent Representatives of Allied Nations visited the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC).
The distinguished guests led by the Permanent Representatives of DEU and GRC to NATO, H.E. Dr. Detlef Wächter and H.E. Abassador Vasiliki Gounari, respectively, Mr. Julien Kita, NATO Director of Defence Enablement and Resilience, Mrs. Carmen Romero, NATO Director of Security Policy H.E. Ambassador Boris Ruge, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, and accompanied by H.E. Ambassador a.h. Michel Spinellis, General Director of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, Vice Admiral Theodoros Mikropoulos GRC-N, Deputy Chief of Defence of Greece, and Brigadier General (HAF) Ioannis Chatzigeorgiou, Director of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff IAMD Directorate, were received by NMIOTC Commandant and Hellenic Navy’s Souda Naval Base (SNB) Commander.
The Commandant NMIOTC delivered a command brief highlighting the Centre’s mission, training & transformational capabilities and strategic objectives, followed by a presentation from the SNB Commander, who outlined the major roles and capabilities of the Souda Naval Base.
The DEU – GRC & NAC away day delegation had also the opportunity to attend a set of operational demonstrations showcasing NMIOTC’s training capabilities, including a fast-rope and container inspection drill, an overview of the ongoing Maritime C-IED course, and a live Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) scenario designed to simulate real-time medical response in combat environments.
