Farewell, TP ARIS – Welcome, TP AXIOS
The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) announces the successful relocation of its longstanding training platform, ex-HS Aris (A-74), which recently departed from its berth at the NMIOTC premises in Marathi towards Souda Naval Base HQs, to then sail for its final, honorable mission. Utilized as a target during a scheduled live-fire training exercise, the ship made its last contribution to Hellenic Navy’s operational readiness.
Ex-HS Aris, a vessel with a distinguished history dating back to 1979 and in long service as the Hellenic Naval Academy until its decommission in 2004, played a vital role in maritime interdiction training over the past years. Its presence significantly enhanced the realism and effectiveness of NMIOTC’s exercises, providing trainees with a unique operational environment.
The farewell of ARIS as a training asset opens a new chapter for the Centre.
Ex-HS AXIOS (A-464), once a Hellenic Navy auxiliary ship (initially commissioned as FGS Coburg, A-1412) has shifted berth and is now berthed in Marathi, to serve as NMIOTC’ new primary training platform – hereinafter TP AXIOS, continuing the Centre’s tradition of excellence in maritime interdiction training.
NMIOTC expresses its sincere appreciation to the Hellenic Navy for its unwavering support and to all those who have contributed to these ships’ operational utility and training legacy.
