NSO “Maritime Operational Law Course” in NMIOTC
From 18 to 22 May 2026, the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) hosted the 2026 iteration of the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) “Maritime Operational Law Course”, receiving thirty (30) trainees representing Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States.
This NATO-approved course strengthens Allied and Partner capacity to conduct maritime operations within the framework of international law. The MarOpLaw course equips military and civilian legal advisors and naval officers with legal expertise required to support NATO maritime missions, ranging from peacetime operations to armed conflict at sea. This training enhances interoperability, fosters shared legal understanding across multinational forces, and strengthens professional networks among legal practitioners operating in the maritime domain.
The course was delivered by subject matter experts coming from the NATO School Oberammergau, the U.S. Naval War College, the Royal Netherlands Navy, the Royal Navy Command Headquarters, the Irish Defence Forces, the CoE CSW and the Fozzie Miller Group.
