“The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) is the only NATO Education & Training Facility (NETF) focused in the maritime domain. Officially established in 2008, is quality-assurance unconditionally accredited by Allied Command Transformation. Funded by Greece and multinationally manned, the Centre is located at the north-west of Crete, at the Akrotiri peninsula, in the northern area of Souda Bay, near the city of Chania, inside Hellenic Navy’s Souda Naval Base.”

Course 12000 “C-IED in Maritime Interdiction Operations”
From 10th to 14th of March 2025, the Resident Course 12000 “C-IED in Maritime Interdiction Operations” was conducted at the NMIOTC premises. This NATO Approved Course fills an operational gap in capability and contributes to operations conducted by Boarding Teams when searching and exploiting evidence, which are fundamental to the C-IED process. The aim is to train Boarding Team personnel in NATO TTPs (Tactics, Technics and Procedures) to undertake expedient weapons intelligence tasks on board vessels and other maritime infrastructure in support of C-IED operations. Visit of the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy, MFA GRC
On Tuesday, March 11th, 2025, Candidate Attaches d’Ambassade from the Diplomatic Academy of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, escorted by H.E. Ambassador Michael Diamessis, Director of the Hellenic Diplomatic Academy and H.E. Minister Plenipotentiary Loukas Karatsolis, Head of A7 Directorate MFA GRC, visited NMIOTC. During the visit, they were informed about the Centre’s mission, role, training and transformational capabilities/activities.
CO “Paolo Thaon di Revel” and ITA Defence Attaché to GRC Visited NMIOTC
On Monday, March 10th, 2025, Commander Riccardo Chericoni ITA (N), Commanding Officer of the ITS “Paolo Thaon di Revel”, accompanied by the Italian Defence Attaché in Athens, Colonel Maurizio Ortenzi ITA (AF), visited NMIOTC. During the visit, they paid an office call to NMIOTC Commandant, with whom discussed the Centre’s mission, role, training and transformational capabilities/activities. NMIOTC Commandant expressed also his gratitude to the Italian Navy for supporting throughout the years the Centre with highly skilled and professional staff.
